What is 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu?

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is a form of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu without the Kimono, or Gi, formally known as 'NOGI' and is an ever increasingly popular sport that uses all the basic takedown and submission techniques of Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo and incorporates them into a singular form of grappling. Check out our video on the main page to learn more about what we teach from the Founder!

NOTE: Our Tiny Twisters (ages 5-8) don't learn submission until they advance to the Mat Monsters (ages 9-12) for safety and to learn how to escape, sweep, and control their opponents.

Do I need any experience or be in shape to start?

No former experience is necessary and all levels of fitness can enjoy learning BJJ. In our case, we train as a team and all levels are welcome to train with us.  We encourage all our students to help develop other students, that way we get better as a whole.

What should I wear to my trial?

  • For the first few classes, comfortable gym clothes like shorts and a t-shirt are sufficient.

  • Avoid wearing clothing with buttons and zippers to prevent injury to your partners or equipment.

  • No jewelry, watches, or anything that could cause injury or get tangled during training.

Am I too old to train Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu is truly a martial art for everyone and there is a thriving community of senior practitioners. We tailor our teaching to the individual and it's an activity you can take at your own pace. We look out for our teammates and safety is paramount!

Is Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?

Absolutely, our kids programs are well supervised and focuses on the core values of discipline, respect, and safety!  Like all contact sports, injuries are a possibility, but Jiu Jitsu is closely related to wrestling where there are no punches or kicks thrown. All students are taught to "tap" to submissions or safety (meaning they feel there may be a possibility of an injury).

BJJ seems to be a very male dominated sport, do women train Jiu Jitsu?

You bet...women in Jiu Jitsu is growing and we've created a very diverse and inclusive environment to train. In recent years, wrestling and BJJ have seen a boom in women participation and we're proud to offer this opportunity to the area!

Where can we get gear for classes or apparel for casual wear?

When you sign up, there a fee associated that'll cover the rashguard provided day one, but if you're looking for additional sets or clothing to wear around town, click on the image below to visit our online store!
